Welcome: The Journey Ahead

Welcome: The Journey Ahead

7.19.2020

Tonight begins the journey.  Tomorrow I will get into my car and make the drive to my school where I will return back to a brick-and-mortar classroom.  March 13th was the last day that I saw students face-to-face before I left for spring break and did not return due to the pivot to online learning because of Covid-19.  For me, this journey is not a return to my students because I have been connected with many of them virtually since the beginning of April.  Instead, this is a journey of serving as an educator during a global pandemic.

The national conversation about public education leads the morning and nightly.  Social media posts allow individuals to share their views with either strong support for educators or harsh criticism of our concerns.  The phrase "reopening of schools" can not be missed.

This blog will chronicle my days an educator "returning to the classroom."  I will share joys, challenges, and funny moments.  This is a moment in time for my profession.  Like so many others, I have been caught amidst the emotional turmoil of wanting to serve students along with protecting the health of my family and myself as an educator.  May this blog chronicle those highs and lows of this journey in the days and months ahead.

Tonight begins with a prayer that I often sing to God before big events.  I prayed this song before entering the foster parenting.  I prayed this song before accepting a part-time position as an adjunct lecturer at my alma mater.  Now, I sing this prayer more than ever.
